The Epsom Derby 2027 is on Saturday 5 June, with the Oaks the day before, and hospitality is available in several formats. The Derby is Britain’s richest and most prestigious race, and the festival around it has become a full two-day social occasion. This guide covers the 2027 dates, the dress code as the Jockey Club states it, what the hospitality options look like, and how to plan a day at Epsom Downs.
Epsom Derby Festival 2027 dates
The Betfred Derby Festival runs for two days at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey:
- Friday 4 June 2027: Ladies Day, with the Betfred Oaks.
- Saturday 5 June 2027: Derby Day, with the Betfred Derby, scheduled for 4.00pm.
The Oaks is a Group 1 Classic for fillies, run over the same course and distance as the Derby. The Derby is run over one mile, four furlongs and ten yards on an undulating course. The racecourse is on Epsom Downs in Surrey, a few minutes from Epsom town centre and close to junction 9 of the M25.
The enclosures
The Jockey Club describes three main ways of attending, and each has a different feel:
- Grandstand: views of the finish line, access to the Parade Ring and the festival’s party areas.
- Queen Elizabeth II Stand: front-row views of the track and the Winners’ Circle, with a dress code on Derby Day.
- Cedric’s: the most premium option, by the winning post, with its own marquee and after party. The racecourse shows it as on sale soon, with sign-up open for 2027.
The Jockey Club has not yet given a general on-sale date for tickets, and it advises booking early because some enclosures are likely to sell out.
Dress code at Epsom: what the Jockey Club says
Unlike Royal Ascot, much of Epsom has no formal dress code. The picture, from the racecourse’s own dress code page, is as follows.
Grandstand, Upper Tattenham and The Hill
There is no official dress code. Racegoers are encouraged to come “dressed to feel your best”. Two things are not allowed: fancy dress that is vulgar, derogatory or otherwise inappropriate, which may lead to refusal of entry, and team colours or kits.
Queen Elizabeth II Stand on Derby Day
A dress code applies to ticket holders and to hospitality guests. Men should wear black or grey morning dress with a top hat, service dress, or full national costume. Women should wear formal day dress or a tailored trouser suit, with a hat or fascinator. For hospitality, the page specifies a substantial fascinator.
Ladies Day
The racecourse’s dress code page does not set out a separate Ladies Day dress code, although the day has its own Style Awards. Check the Jockey Club page nearer the time, as the racecourse can set or change dress codes for any day, enclosure or area, and it can refuse entry to anyone who does not comply.
Hospitality at the Derby Festival
The Jockey Club lists a range of 2027 hospitality options on its own site. We summarise them here as published by the course, without prices:
- 1780: a seated lunch followed by afternoon tea, with an inclusive bar and an after-party in the marquee.
- Duchess’s Stand Private Box Package: a private box with a seated four-course lunch or a buffet, a Champagne reception, afternoon tea, an inclusive bar and Grandstand admission.
- The Views: sharing boards and a tasting menu, with views of the course and the London skyline, and Grandstand admission.
- Downs View Suite: on the second floor of the Duchess’s Stand, with a seated four-course lunch and views of the Winning Post.
- Chez Roux at Blue Riband: a private table with a five-course à la carte menu in the style of the Roux family, and admission to the Queen Elizabeth II Stand and Grandstand.
- Derby Suite: on the third floor of the Queen Elizabeth II Stand, with a private table, a five-course à la carte menu and a Champagne reception.
- Private Boxes: a box with its own balcony, a personal host and a stocked bar.
The practical difference is between a private box, which suits a group that wants its own space and a host, and a suite or restaurant table, which suits a smaller party that wants a longer, seated meal. Most of the packages include Grandstand admission, and the more premium ones include entry to the Queen Elizabeth II Stand, which carries the Derby Day dress code.
Which day should you choose?
Derby Day is the headline, with the main race at 4.00pm and the strictest dress in the Queen Elizabeth II Stand. Ladies Day on the Friday is described by the course as a day of style, and it has the Oaks as its feature race. Some groups prefer Friday for the slightly more relaxed pace and the style focus, while others plan around the Derby itself. If you are entertaining clients, think about whether you want the formality of morning dress or a looser day.
What we do not yet know
Some details are not yet published. The Jockey Club has not announced a general on-sale date for tickets, and the Cedric’s enclosure is shown as on sale soon. Gate opening times and the full race card are not on the pages we read. We will not guess at them, and we recommend you check the Jockey Club’s Derby Festival page again nearer the date.
If you are entertaining on Derby Day, the main practical point is the afternoon structure. The Derby itself is scheduled for 4.00pm, so a long seated lunch will usually finish well before the big race, and a group in a box has the choice of staying in its space or going out to the rail.
Planning your Epsom day
- Decide the day and the format. A private box, a suite or a restaurant table each suit a different group size.
- Settle dress early. If your hospitality sits in the Queen Elizabeth II Stand on Derby Day, morning dress or formal day dress applies. Hiring morning dress takes time.
- Think about travel. Epsom Downs is by the M25, and race days are busy. Allow time for the journey.
- Ask for the total in writing. We do not publish prices, and we confirm the total, inclusions and terms before you pay.
